The Late Renaissance design of St Peter’s Basilica has greatly influenced church architecture in Western Christendom. The Baroque Neoclassical St Peter’s Square, designed by Bernini, is “the greatest of all piazzas before the greatest of all churches of Christendom” (History of Architecture, Sir Banister Fletcher, 1896).

Thanks, Xandre! The first photo was a serendipitous shot taken from a double-decker sight-seeing bus. The others are the ‘obligatory travel photos’ to chronicle the adventure.
Definitely a place to visit – so much history and amazing architecture (and engineering) to marvel at.
Indeed stunning photos! I need to visit Rome and Vatican City badly. It’s a sin not to. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Amer. I’m sure Rome and the Vatican are near the top of your list of cities to visit. Just think of those iconic edifices to sketch (or photograph)!
