Situated between the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill, near the formal centre of old Rome, the triumphal Arch of Constantine (Arcus Constantini, dedicated AD 315) commemorates the victory of Constantine over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312 for sole control of the Roman empire in the west.
