In March this year, the luxury liner, Queen Mary 2 visited Melbourne for a day as part of her 28-day maiden voyage to Australia (108-day world cruise). Twice the length of the Melbourne Cricket Ground at 345-metres and 48-metres longer than Melbourne’s Eureka Tower, it was certainly the biggest ship I’ve ever seen.

Some interesting facts about the ship:
– Queen Mary 2 weighs 151,400 tonnes and stands 62m above the waterline
– The ship has three 23-tonne anchors
– There are more than 50 nationalities among the 1200 crew
– The ship’s teak wrap-around Promenade Deck is almost 600m long
– The Queen Mary 2 signs near the funnel are the largest illuminated ship name signs in maritime history stretching 22 metres long and 2.4 metres high
– Queen Mary 2’s library is the largest at sea with more than 8000 hardbacks, 500 paperbacks and  200 audio books
