Some weeks ago, I visited my hometown in the Province of Albay in the Philippines. The main landmark of the province is always a sight to behold. But I must admit that growing up in the shadows of this grand dame, I somehow took her for granted. She was just always there. The recent visit provided that opportunity to capture some of her glory.

Mount Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines (located in Albay, 490kms south of Manila) having erupted over 48 times in the past 400 years. Local folklore refers to the volcano as Daragang Magayon (Bikol: ‘Beautiful Lady‘). The cone is considered to be the world’s most perfectly-formed volcano because of its almost symmetric conical shape. The upper slopes of the volcano are steep averaging 35–40 degrees.
Elevation: 2463m
Prominence: 2447m
Last eruption: 2010

The countryside between Frankfurt and Munich is Germany’s medieval heartland. The towns in this region are linked by fast train, the A7 autobahn and the scenic driving route called the Romantische Strasse (B17 on the road map). With the autobahn bypassing must-see destinations in the region, the Romantic Road is the prime tourist trail and the best way to wander through the small towns, quaint hills and rolling villages along the route.

On a sunny winter day, the drive from Munich through Landsberg am Lech to Schwangau (Bavaria, southern Germany) offered a beautiful snow blanketed scenery that was just awe-inspiring.
