Sometime ago, I came across this wonderful photoblog, Feet First which features the travelling feet of a couple (and later on, their daughter) documenting their travels. Some might consider this a cliche or somewhat cheesy but I’ve always thought that taking photos of my feet on my travels is a fun way of recording adventures and memories.

Revisiting the Old Town Square, Prague in summer

This square comes alive with a much more exciting buzz in summer. I visited this historic city square three years ago in winter and I was already amazed by the architecture and activities happening all around the square. But the dynamics of activities and the mixture of sounds in the square are totally different in summer.

I also had the chance this time to go up the Old Town Hall Tower for more stunning views of the square below and a 360deg panoramic view of Prague, the Vltava River and the Castle Hill.

Interesting buildings in New Town, Prague adorned with Art Deco and Art Nouveau architectural details:

The Koruna Palace (Na Příkopě  corner Wenceslas Square) was built in 1910 by the architects Antonin Pfeiffer and Matěj Blecha. The angular tower has statues on the crown which were works of Vojtech Sucharda (c 1912-1914).

An example of an early Art Nouveau building in Prague is the former Hotel Central built 1898-1900, now the K+K Hotel Central at Hybernská. This 4*-boutique hotel in the city centre of Praque is located within a short walking distance from the Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží) and Old Town Square.

Designed by Bedřich Ohmann (1858-1927) and his students Bedřich Bendelmayer (1872-1932) and Alois Dryák, unique Jugendstil architectural details adorn this very stylish hotel.

One of the most breath-taking bridges I have visited is the Charles Bridge in Prague which is the oldest bridge in the city.

Charles Bridge (Czech: Karlův most) is one of Prague’s most visited and romantic sights. This beautiful pedestrian only bridge was once the only bridge that crosses the Vltava River and it connects the oldest city districts. The view over the bridge at the skyline of the Hradčany is one of the breath-taking sights of Europe.

The construction of the bridge started in 1357 and completed in the beginning of the 15th century. The Gothic Charles Bridge is 516 metres long and nearly 10 metres wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards and its pavement is 13 metres above the river. On the Lesser Quarter side stands two of the three bridge towers and a single tower on the Old Town side.

The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, mostly erected around 1700 and in the baroque-style.

Amidst the historic attractions, the classic Baroque edifices and Art Nouveau facades along the Rašínovo nábřeží in New Town, Prague, stands this amusing rather whimsical building that looks like a dancing couple.

The Nationale-Nederlanden building, more fondly called as The Dancing House (Czech: Tančící dům), was designed in 1992 and completed in 1996. Designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in co-operation with Canadian architect Frank Gehry, the building stands out among the edifices alongside the Vltava River.

Originally named Ginger and Fred, the building is an example of deconstructivist architecture, with an unusual form. It represents two dancers Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers. The glass tower Ginger bends and clings to the concrete tower Fred, which has a metal cupola on the top, representing hair.
